There are two theories for how infants develop: cephalocaudal or proximodistal. Cephalocaudal is a physical pattern of development starting from the head and moving downward. Proximodistal is development from the core spreading outward. In this case a baby would be able to use its arms before its fingers. The children also fine motor skills, hit sensory milestones, and pick up on language.

Chapter 2This chapter talks about the physical development though one's life. It categorizes them into 6 stages. Using this in my future It is important to understand how the body physically develops, so that the teacher can understand who is happing to the child at the time. In my case, teaching high school, I need to be aware of eating disorders and how the adolescents view their bodies.
