Mary Cover came up with two ways to cure a phobia. Phobias are irrational generalized fear of a certain object or event. There is extinction and counter-conditioning. If the extinction method was used the person with the fear would be thrown into the fear several times until he got over it. The person would take baby steps until the task could be completed without anxiety. Counter-conditioning is relating a positive object with the fear. Instead of the object being a scary thing, it would become a positive experience.

Chapter 3Like all things, humans can be trained to behave a certain way. This chapter explains several theories. It also covers the Social Learning Theory. Using this in my future Social learning theory affects every aspect in the classroom. Children learn from watching and modeling what they see. Classical and operant conditioning allows the teacher no modify the students behavior. I plan to use operant conditioning to reinforce the behaviors I have in my classroom.
